Where Might I Live ("Company") and the Where Might I Live? website and app (the "Service") (collectively "we") are committed to protecting the privacy and security of our customers and visitors. This Privacy Policy sets out how the Service collects and uses personal information. By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted the practices below.

1. Confidentiality and security of personal information

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect personally identifiable information sent to the Service, both during transmission and afterward.

Separately from advertising, we use two analytics services, Fathom Analytics and Umami, to measure how the Service is used. We are running both while we compare them, and expect to keep only one. Neither service sets cookies, follows visitors across other websites or builds a profile of you. Both derive an approximate location and a rotating, non-identifying visit count from your IP address and browser details, keep neither in a form that identifies you, and report only aggregate figures such as page views, referring sites and country. Neither is used to target advertising.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may opt out of the use of cookies for personalized advertising by some third-party vendors by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices. Opting out does not stop you from seeing advertising; it stops that advertising from being personalized to you.

4. How we use personal information

We make every effort to identify the purposes for which we collect personal information at or before the time we collect it. We use your personal information only for the purposes disclosed at the time of collection or set out in this Privacy Policy, unless we have your consent for another use or that use is authorized or required by law. When you ask a sponsor to call you or submit your contact information on a sponsor form. We share your account and contact information – including your contact details, the wishlists you built, the wishes you starred and the counties you saved – with that sponsor only, so they can respond. We share it only when you request the callback yourself or submit the form yourself.
with our affiliated companies;
with third parties that help us improve the quality or design of the Service and create new features, promotions, functionality and services by storing, tracking and analyzing user preferences and trends;
if required by law, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or comply with a judicial or legal process;
if we believe it is required to investigate, prevent or act on illegal activity, suspected fraud or a potential threat to anyone's physical safety, or as otherwise required by law;
with a third party in the event the Service is assigned for any reason;
with our legal, financial and other professional advisors;
with website developers when we upgrade or improve the Service; and
with third parties once we have your consent, as required by law.

Posts featured under "Live from locals" are public posts their owners asked us to show, with a link back to each one, until the owner switches it off. Except as described above, we will not share your information with any third party without your permission.

6. Access to your personal information

You can review, update, delete or correct the personal information you have given us. To do so, send us a written request. When we receive it, we will take commercially reasonable steps to give you access to that information.

7. Fraud

If you ever believe you have been the victim of fraud, please report it to the police and take all available steps to protect yourself. Please also tell us, so we can take every possible measure to protect you and other users.

8. Children

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. The Service is for people eighteen (18) years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen (13).

If you are a California resident, you may ask us how we share certain categories of your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. California law lets you request the categories of customer information we shared, and the names and addresses of the businesses we shared it with, during the prior calendar year. To ask, contact us and include "Request for California Privacy Information" in your message. We will reply to your email address. Not all information sharing is covered by California's "Shine the Light" requirements, and only covered sharing will be included in our response.
